Itinerary Ionion 8 Days

Ionion 8 Days

Scattered along the wes

tern coastline of Central Greece, the Ionian Islands as they are known, are an
island cluster comprising twelve small and large islands whose total surface area comes to 2,200 square kilometers.
Kefallonia, Zakynthos, Ithaca, Corfu, Lefkada and Paxi are the six, large Ionian Islands.  Antipaxi, Erikousa, Mathraki, Othoni, Meganisi and the deserted islets of Strofades south of Zakynthos are the smaller Ionian Islands.

Day 1

Athens to Galaxidi

A beautiful town attracting visitors from Athens and other places all year round. Sights: Neoclassical buildings and stone mansions, nightlife and tavernas with fresh fish, beaches

Day 2

Galaxidi to Kefalonia

A land of contrasts-breathtaking gold or white beaches, deep coves, rugged rocky shores, green and fertile areas with cedar-like fir trees that grow nowhere else in the world, olive and fruit trees, caves with unusual stalagmites and pale blue waters shattering into a myriad of phantasmagoric colors. Sights: Katavothres (a rare geological phenomenon, where sea enters through an opening in the rock and “disappears”), churches, ancient and Roman ruins, monasteries. Delicacies: “Mandola” and other almond flavored sweets, local pastries.

Day 3

Kefalonia to Lefkada

Mountainous and totally green, with coast slopes gently down to the sea, which is sheltered from the wind and dotted with thickly wooded islets. Breathtaking green bays with crystal clear waters among other natural beauties attract visitors. Sights: Ancient sites, Venetian castle, monasteries, museum.

Day 4

Lefkada to Ithaki

Home of Odysseus, Homer’s hero, an earthly paradise with green mountains and captivating coves, with caves for exploring, lovely beaches for bathing, uncrowded hamlets, a lot of strong nightlife. Sights: Cave of the Nymphs, monasteries and museums. Delicacies: “Ravani” A semolina syrup sweet.

Day 5

Ithaki to Zakynthos

According to Venetians, this was the “flower of the Orient”, with the emerald green sea, the pine-studded mountains, slopes with flowers of every kind, the musical people and their famous hospitality. Sights: Venetian towers, churches of the 12th and 14th century, springs, caves. Delicacies: “Mandolato” a nougat pastry

Day 6

Zakynthos to Kyllini

Killini sits at the Peloponnesian peninsula’s western-most crook. It’s probably best known for its port. But to view it as little more than a place of transit is missing a trick. For one, it’s got a great backdrop, with a Medieval castle standing guard over a thick pine forest that looks like something out of Red Riding Hood.

Day 7

Kyllini to Corinth

The connection between Aegean and Ionion islands with a 3,2 miles long, narrow channel, completed in 1893, offering an outstanding view either from the top or passing thought the channel.
